iPad 2 coming, get the kids ready – Mini Chinese Lesson

The following is a short excerpt from a TechBang report about the imminent release of the iPad 2:

It’s finally here, Apple is about to hold their first event of the year. Although presently there isn’t any explanation about what the contents of the announcement will be, but looking at the corner of the icon (from the announcement promotional material), at the very least we can be sure iPad 2 will be announced, more or less the same as what was expected in all the media reports. Anyone who’s been wanting to buy an iPad over the last few days should first wait and prepare to get their hands on the iPad 2, and also get the kids ready.

We’ll explain the ‘get the kids ready’ remark further down the page, but first some vocabulary:

終於等到了,Apple將會舉辦今年第一場Apple event。雖然目前並沒有說明要發表什麼內容,但由圖示缺一角來看,基本上就是確定要發表iPad 2,和之前各媒體預期的消息差不多。這幾天要買iPad的人可要先停個手,而準備要入手iPad 2的,也可以把小朋友準備好了。

Get the kids ready

Sorry for making you wait until the very end before explaining this, but would you have studied the rest of the words otherwise?

“Get the kids ready” here is colloquial Chinese used in Taiwan, and refers to the children that can be seen on a $1000 note in Taiwan, so the phrase essential means ‘get your money ready’.

小朋友準備好(小朋友准备好)

Pinyin: xiǎo péng yǒu zhŭn bèi hǎo
English: get your money ready

NT1000

  • 名筆

    小朋友準備好翻譯過來的確是把錢準備好(get your money ready)的意思,但是這樣用法有點奇怪,通常我們是把1000元代稱成小朋友,是在日常生活中花到一千塊就會說用了一張小朋友,而把錢準備好並不會以「小朋友準備好」來說,除非那個東西剛好1000元

  • GO

    其實這要追朔到線上遊戲剛開始時,虛寶賣台幣,因為不能直接說賣多少新台幣,才會衍生出這個名詞,千元鈔上面有4個小朋友看地圖。
